the elusive finished script

I've been writing my first feature length script over the past few months. And I have just one thing to say.

I cannot wait to be done with it.

Not because I'm tired of it, no. It's just so I can print it out, bracket the thing together, hold it in my hands and walk around downtown Dallas showing every person I see that I actually finished a script. Sense of accomplishment, here I come.

I've hit a bit of a snag this past week. I'm not necessarily out of ideas, and I know how to end the thing... I just got caught up in the many things that cause writers to abandon their scripts. I got caught up in the things that really don't matter. That seems to happen a lot in my life, but I digress.

Being a student of film, having mentors who write copious amounts of scripts and have abundant knowledge that they have passed on to me, I know what a good script should look like. I know all the important things that a good script should have. I know what bad dialogue sounds like, what bad storytelling looks like, how to and how not to weave the stories together. So, is my script good? Is it following all the rules and regulations and things that I want it to? The answer is an absolute and defiant: NO.

Am I ok with that? Not yet.

Here's the thing. It doesn't matter. What matters is that I finish what I started. That I achieve my goal. The important thing is that I actually do it - so I know that I can do it again. I can fix plot holes and bad dialogue and other problems with the script. I shouldn't let myself get in the way of just doing it. One thing that I have to struggle with is failing. I don't like it - not that anyone does - but I don't like it so much that I end up just dropping it completely - that way there's no reason that I can fail. It's ok to fail. It's ok for my first script to not be any good. As long as lessons are learned, and I move on from my mistakes, it's a fail well worth it.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

twitter

I have a twitter account.

My favorite thing about twitter? Their branding.

I think it is brilliant how they have brandished their name - everywhere in Twitterland. So, I find it only fitting to have my own list of things that should be Twitter-fied. Ahem.

1. "Twictionary" : A document containing a selection of the words of a language, usually pertaining to Twitter, giving information about their meanings, pronunciations, etymologies, inflected forms, etc., expressed in the language of the Twit-ites.
-Basically this list here. Basically.

2. "Twearch" : A research paper in form of Twitter.
-Imagine how great to have class research papers restrained to 140 characters. The possibilities are endless.

3. "Tweating" : 1. The art of eating a fellow Twit-ite. 2. Consuming food while "tweeting".
-Ha. See what I did there? Puns are Fun! (ps. it is not recommended that you eat other twitters....)

4. "TwitterWorld" : The bigger better version of a cyber place known as Twitter.
-Relate this one as the difference between Disney Land and Disney World. Which one would you rather go to? Hmm?

5. "Twists" : A list of updates from a users Twitter account.
- Oddly, this one is often mistaken for some sort of odd dance.

Aww... depressing. I just found out that there is already another "twittonary" out there! I think I shall direct you to their site. http://www.twittonary.com/ Have a look around.

Also, come find me on Twitter. I'd rather enjoy getting to know you.... In 140 characters or less, of course. twitter.com/courtneyprice

I paint. Therefore I am.

I have spent the past 5 days straight painting our new offices to make them look "cool". We've got 5 different colors that slowly have been making their way onto the walls. It feels like it's taking me FOR-E-VER.

... and nope, I'm not done yet.

It's quite frustrating to have something like decor hanging over my head. I have a lot of other stuff that I could be doing, and should be doing, but before I can get any of it done, I must paint. Ha. I just realized that "pain" is inside the word "paint". Brilliantly appropriate.

Dan, my boss, and I just moved into these new offices with the guys over at Deadmen Productions. We - Serendipitous Films - worked with them - Ron, Ben, and Mike - on The Imposter. This is how we all met. And now we're all sharing an office. It's party time.

the obligatory first

Every blog has it. The first. The "This Is What My Blog Is Going To Be About" blog entry.

Now of course that I've made such a blanketed statement with no grounds to back it up, you are probably going to find every example of blogs that started without a TIWMBIGTBA just to prove me wrong. I will gladly admit defeat in light of your spending so much time to prove a point.

This is my fourth blog - one for each season of living. I really enjoy going back and reading some of the past entries from them. I really spaced the different blogs out nicely, one that I kept in my middle school years (which I have sadly forgotten the domain name for, and therefore cannot find it), one through most of high school, and one for a few months while shooting The Imposter. (www.theimpostermovie.com) - shameless plug, I know.

So what is this blog about? No idea. Yet.

But I do know that I want to write. I love to write. And what better way to do so than in a blog?

So, what's to be expected? No way of knowing... but here we go.
